I confess, I wasn’t very keen on green living when the idea was first introduced to me. Of course, I was not against it but in my mind, I thought it was going to be so much of a hassle and inconvenience that I didn’t want to embrace it. However, a friend was able to convince me to give it a try and today, I have been practicing the green lifestyle for more than three years now and I am proud of myself for what I have accomplished. I am so happy that I chose to live green and now I strongly advocate this way of life.

Initially, I did not try to make any drastic changes or anything that would be out of my budget’s range like replacing the appliances we own or using sustainable materials to improve our home. Instead, I focused on simple steps that I can do every day and from there, I realized that living green wasn’t such a bad idea after all. In fact, it was a very, very good scheme.
After a while, we have decided to take on bigger steps to complete our green lifestyle. With the money we saved, we were able to replace some our appliances like the refrigerator, washing machine, and heater to the Energy Saver brand. It might cost a little higher than regular brands but it is worth the investment. We have been able to renovate our home to make way for better ventilation. We now don’t have to switch on the lights during the day time, plus we’re able to enjoy a beautiful view of the outdoors.
And yes, we did use sustainable materials on all our home improvement projects. It’s not yet complete but we are planning to continue with this lifestyle and we are eyeing on another renovation project this coming year to prepare for the next winter.
Not only do we, as a family contribute to the preservation of our planet in our own little ways, but we also reap so many benefits. This post is all about that! I have written all the benefits I could think of that we were able to enjoy as soon as we began embracing the green life. Hopefully, by sharing with you all these benefits, I can encourage you to give the green life a try.
We reduced our expenses : I think it would be realistic for me to say that our family was able to save anywhere from $1,000 to as much as $3,000 in a year from electricity bills, water bills, and overall spending. I am excited to tell everyone that we were able to cut down our energy consumption by as much as 25% each month, and we saved around 25% to 30% on water usage. Also, by reusing, recycling, and repurposing a lot of things, we didn’t have to buy new ones as much as we used to and I think that helped us to save even more money in the process.
We are healthier : Yes, I would be bold to say that I and my family are much healthier now than before we practiced green living. As to why I can say that, there are fewer trips to the clinics except for our annual physical check-ups.
Our family doctor gave us a big nod when he said that our eating habits are commendable. We steer clear from pre-processed foods. My kids don’t mind eating vegetables. I often try to come up with economical recipes that make use of vegetables in season. They love vegetables and we always buy organic food whenever possible.

We are able to breathe cleaner, toxin-free air in our home because we don’t use cleaning products with harmful chemicals. I have opted to use only natural cleaning agents for the home and it’s both economical and safe.
We are happy : We feel good knowing that we are able to do something about the environmental problems. My kids, despite their young age, are very environmentally-conscious and they encourage their peers to do the same. I feel confident promoting the green lifestyle because I know that we are practicing it as a family. It’s not difficult at all. The green lifestyle is beneficial and truly fulfilling.
